Create udl file to test database connectivity
Posted on 10 October 2018
I use UDL file most of the time to test the connectivity between SQL server database and the application server.
This helps me to know whether the port is open or not. Still there are tools like port query which is more reliable to check the connectivity
this is one of the quickest method.
To create a udl file is very simple, follow the below sptes
- Open notepad file and save it as .udl
- Enter SQL Server database instance name (e.g. MSSQLSERVER)
- Specify domain account or SQL authenticated account to authenticate to database instance.
- You will see the databases on the server in the dropdown list and Test connection
